We are fortunate to be located in a very beautiful part of the south coast, recently titled the ‘Jurassic Coast’.
Our local cruising area is a bit like an open book. The page on the left being the delightfully quiet Lyme Bay, with the Isle of Portland in the middle in the crease area if you like, and on the right hand side, Weymouth Bay.
St Albans Head is 15 miles to the east, bounded by the Shambles Bank six miles southwards. Weymouth Bay embraces Ringstead, Lulworth Cove, and Worbarrow Bay, and many less known little places to look into in fair weather. Like Man o’War Cove and Kimmeridge for example.
On the Portland side, one can visit Balaclava bay or perhaps Church Ope Cove. Not forgetting Portland Harbour with the Olympic facilities, and the now nearly complete huge new Marina.
Further a field, 50 nm to the west of Portland Bill is Start Point, and the same distance due south is Alderney. To the southeast is Cherbourg 60 nm away, and due east to the Isle of Wight is 40 nm.
All sailable in daylight hours.
