The Weymouth & Portland Cruising Association is one of the most active sailing groups in the Weymouth Area. Our membership covers a wide range of sailing skills from solo transatlantic sailors to beginners owning their first boat or people very new to sailing who don’t own their own boat but wish to gain some experience crewing for others.
We currently have over 135 members, some of whom are joint husband and wife or sailing partners owning between them approximately 80 boats. The boats are a mixture of sailing boats, motor sailors and motor boats. We have a number of swinging moorings in Portland Harbour for the exclusive use of members which are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Other advantages of membership are discounts on Portland Port Licences for members who moor on Pontoons in Weymouth Harbour, or who have one of our moorings in Portland Harbour.
We have an extensive summer cruising programme consisting of local day-cruises extending to cruises lasting several weeks often to France, Spain or the West Country. Cruises to other European countries or the Baltic are also within our remit. During the winter season, we meet each week at a local venue and endeavour to have 3 ‘event evenings’ per month. These might be a talk from one of our own members or guest speaker, a quiz or other topic of interest. Entry to these evenings is free to members.
Being solely dedicated to Cruising, we do not run an expensive club house or get involved in racing programmes, and hence have very low overheads. Our membership fees are therefore also very low starting at £25 for a single member to £30 for joint or family members per year. We currently have no limit on membership and are therefore open to new member applications - which of course do have to be approved by our committee. For more details on membership please contact the membership secretary by email or phone.
